Ladislao Mazurkiewicz was a Uruguayan football (soccer) player born on February 14, 1945, in Montevideo, Uruguay, and passed away on January 2, 2013, in Lima, Peru. He is considered one of the greatest goalkeepers in Uruguayan football history. Mazurkiewicz started his professional career at the age of 20 with the Uruguayan club Peñarol, where he won numerous domestic and international titles, including three Copa Libertadores and one Intercontinental Cup.
He played for the Uruguayan national team from 1967 until his retirement in 1974, earning 39 caps. He was part of the Uruguay team that won the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, where he played a crucial role in the team's success, making several important saves in the tournament. Mazurkiewicz was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament and earned a spot in the World Cup All-Star Team.
After retiring from playing football, Mazurkiewicz became a coach, managing several teams in Uruguay and Peru. He is remembered as a legend of Uruguayan football and one of the best goalkeepers of his generation.
